Mussoorie is a well known hill station in India. Popularly known as the Queen of the Hills, this idyllic town is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. Mussoorie is known for its scenic beauty, idyllic atmosphere and is visited by hundreds of tourists from various parts of the world.

Mussoorie in Uttarakhand is situated at an altitude of 2,000 meters and consists of sprawling vegetation of oak, pine, deodar and rhododendron trees. The town offers spectacular views of the snow capped mountains and the Shivalik ranges in the south. Mussoorie, Uttarakhand experiences a moderate climate with mild summers and cold winters. The weather remains pleasant throughout the year. The ideal time for making trips to Mussoorie is between the months of February and June.

Kempty Falls

Kempty Falls is said to be one of the most prominent waterfalls in Uttarakhand. The falls are encircled by high mountain cliff. Since the water falls from a great height, it is believed that this water further divides in 5 different streams. Being present on the Mussoorie-Dehradun Highway, the Kempty Falls attracts a number of tourists from across the country.

Kempty Falls is located about 15 km from Mussoorie and lies at an altitude of about 4500 feet above the sea level. The sacred River Yamuna is about 12 kms from here. Kempty Falls was initiated as a picnic spot in 1835 by the British officer John Mekinan. It has a perennial waterfall making it an interesting picnic spot for all. You can even take a bath under the fresh waters of the waterfall.

Lal Tibba

It is situated in Landour, which is a small cantonment area about 6 km from Mussoorie. Lal Tibba is one of the highest peaks of Mussoorie with a height of over 2,275 metres. It gives a breathtaking panorama of beautiful snow covered Himalayan peaks such as Kedarnath, Banderpuchh and Badrinath. An elevated structure of around 20 metres has been placed at the edge of the peak to provide a more magnificent view.

Landour is one of the oldest inhabited places in Mussoorie and used to have many British as its residents. The quaint charm of the place is still retained through its serene and beautiful environment, and the proudly standing colonial structures. Famous personalities such as Ruskin Bond, Tom Alter and Vishal Bhardwaj have their homes in Landour.

Gun Hill

Gun Hill is one of the most prominent tourist attractions for the tourists who visit Mussoorie. It is the second highest peak in Mussoorie. Irrespective of the time of the month, do carry woolen clothes with you. Views from the top of the Gun Hill peak are bound to leave you spell bound.

At the second top peak of the Mussoorie, Gun Hill is popular place among photographers and Himalayan viewers as it provides a 360 degree view of Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri group etc. One can also witness Mussoorie's top view from Gun Point with other picturesque views of the Mussoorie and Doon valley. Visitors also like to enjoy Ropeway ride to Gun Point which also provides a scenic views of the city and valley. Gun Point now has a water reservoir of the Mussoorie city.

Library Bazaar

Library Bazaar is located on the Mall Road. It is also known as Gandhi Chowk because of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at one end of the bazaar. The bazaar is one of the busiest parts of Mussoorie with all the shops, eateries and gaming parlours. But what makes it stand apart is the colonial feel that the stretch of road radiates through the various sorts of colonial constructions. Most remarkable is the Victorian-style old library, which was built in mid-19th century, and lies near the market. The bazaar derives its name from the library.

Then there is the omnipresent beauty of Mussoorie which makes the shopping experience more pleasant.Various products are sold in the shops and stalls which line the street. With a little bargaining one is sure to get a good value for money. Getting here is easy; one can just walk to the bazaar or take a rickshaw. Restaurants and cafes are available in ample to suitably gratify hunger.

George Everest House

George Everest's House is set at the Mall Road and has long been the home to the much popular Welsh surveyor and geographer, Sir George Everest. A piece of documented history awaits the tourists 6 km from the library Chowk (or Gandhi Chowk). Built in 1832, the house and observatory of Sir George Everest, the Welsh surveyor and geographer and the Surveyor General of India (from 1830 to 1843). He played a major role in the Great Trigonometric Survey of India which extended from South India to Nepal, covering a distance of about 2,400 km.

After this survey, world's highest peak was discovered; that peak was Mount Everest, and it was named after Sir George Everest in 1865. From where the old residential structure stands, one can see the Doon valley at one side and the marvellous snow-covered Himalayan peaks at the other. Everest House is well-connected by motorable roads; however, the way becomes a little rough after Haathi Paon.

Mussoorie Lake

It is a man-made lake which was developed by City Board and the Mussoorie-Dehradun Developmental Authority. The lake is placed at a scenic location about 6 km before Mussoorie on the Dehradun-Mussoorie Road. One can get down at Dhobi Ghat from where the lake is just at a walking distance. Surroundings of the lake include the mesmerizing views of Doon Valley and the verdant hills of Mussoorie.

There are pedalled boats to enjoy the calmness of the lovely lake. It is a perfect picnic spot for family and couples to spend fun and quality time. Monsoon is the best time to visit the as the lake looks most beautiful during that time of the year. There is a nominal entry fees and the lake is open all days of the year. Shops offering refreshments are there to provide refreshments to the visitors.
